Copper Cabling System / UTP
UTP (Unshielded Twisted Pair) is the most common copper cabling system used in networking. It consists of pairs of copper wires twisted together to reduce interference.
Usage:
Primarily used for LAN (Local Area Network) connections, such as connecting computers, switches, routers, and IP phones.
Categories:
Common standards are Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6a, Cat7, which determine speed and bandwidth (e.g., Cat6 supports up to 1Gbps–10Gbps depending on distance).
Advantages: Low cost, easy installation, backward compatibility, reliable for short to medium distances (up to 100 meters).
